Outline
The Energy Market Integration (EMI) study has been started from FY2009. The FY2009 study proposed a conceptual framework based on a bottom-up approach to review the process and impacts of EMI. The five issues that were initially identified in the conceptual framework are: trade liberalization; investment liberalization; linkage of regional energy infrastructure; liberalization of domestic energy markets; and energy pricing reform. This framework is used in the subsequently studies. In the FY2010 study, 10 research proposals were accepted to examine how to deepen understanding and move forward EMI. In the FY2011, studies were conduct on both theories of EMI and the focus on the electricity sector.
For the FY 2012, we are looking for proposals that address issues related to EMI but we would like to have focus on renewable energy. We will cooperate with the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) on this study. The selection of proposals is in progress.
