To highlight the 25th anniversary of the coining of the term ‘Human Security’ - the Forum focused on ways to work with the United Nations (UN) to strengthen the human security.  First appearing in a United Nations Development Program report in 1994, ‘human security’ aims to address challenges faced by those who are suffering in the current unstable global situation.

After her presentation, Prof Yamanaka joined a panel discussion with  Ambassador Per Enarsson, Head of the Conflict and Humanitarian Affairs Department at the Swedish Ministry for Foreign Affairs, and Dr Lars Vargö, Head of the ISDP Stockholm Japan Center, on how to enable the international community to work together to achieve concrete targets such as provision of water, food, and energy in an uncertain era and what Japan, Sweden, ISDP and ERIA can contribute to these challenges together.

On the margins of the Forum, Prof Yamanaka met with H.E. Mr. Shigeyuki Hiroki, Ambassador of Japan to the Kingdom of Sweden, Mr Pal Jonsson, Member of Parliament, President of the Sweden and Japan Parliamentary Association, and Mr Dan Smith, Director of Stockholm International Peace Research Institute (SIPRI) to discuss future cooperation, respectively.
