Tianjin, 25 June 2025: On the sidelines of the World Economic Forum’s 16th Annual Meeting of the New Champions (‘Summer Davos’), ERIA President Tetsuya Watanabe held a bilateral meeting with Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh to reaffirm ERIA’s support for Viet Nam’s ambitious development model aimed at achieving double-digit growth and carbon neutrality by 2050.
Prime Minister Chinh welcomed the longstanding partnership with ERIA and encouraged deeper collaboration with Vietnamese ministries, think tanks, and research institutions. He invited ERIA to contribute policy expertise to help unlock new drivers of productivity, quality, and competitiveness – particularly in digital transformation, green transition, and the circular economy – as Viet Nam pursues high-income status by 2045.
The Prime Minister also called on ERIA to provide fresh ideas and policy dialogue inputs for two major upcoming events that Viet Nam will host: the ASEAN Future Forum 2026 and the APEC Economic Leaders’ Week 2027.
President Watanabe praised Viet Nam’s forward-looking economic vision, echoing themes raised in the Prime Minister’s keynote address at Summer Davos. He reaffirmed ERIA’s commitment to supporting Viet Nam with rigorous policy research and actionable recommendations, and to working closely with local partners to chart innovative growth pathways and enhance ASEAN’s collective resilience.
President Watanabe also extended an invitation to Prime Minister Chinh to deliver a keynote lecture on governance, decision-making, and diplomacy at ERIA’s School of Government Leadership Lecture Series in Jakarta.
ERIA’s collaboration with Viet Nam spans over a decade and includes joint initiatives with the Ho Chi Minh National Academy of Politics, the Commission for Policies and Strategies under the Party Central Committee, and the Diplomatic Academy of Viet Nam (Ministry of Foreign Affairs). As Viet Nam pioneers new economic frontiers and assumes a greater leadership role in the region, ERIA stands ready to expand this strategic partnership.
