Secondo il rapporto “Government support to airlines in the aftermath of the COVID-19 pandemic”, pubblicato sul Journal of Air Transport Management da Megersa Abate della Banca Mondiale, Panayotis Christidis del Joint Research Centre (JRC) della Commissione europea e Alloysius Joko Purwanto dell’Economics Research Institute for ASEAN and East Asia, i sostegni governativi alle maggiori compagnie aeree durante la pandemia di Covid-19 rischia di distorcere la concorrenza a svantaggio delle compagnie più piccole e portando alla perdita di alcuni collegamenti internazionali. Allo stesso tempo, i governi potrebbero condizionare il loro sostegno alle compagnie aeree ce concedendo facilitazioni e finanziamenti solo se realizzeranno iniziative per un trasporto aereo più sostenibile.
