The first workshop of ERIA Research Project; "Toward a Competitive ASEAN Single Market: Sectoral Analysis"
The first workshop of ERIA Research Project "Toward a Competitive ASEAN Single Market: Sectoral Analysis" was held at ERIA Annex office on 7 September 2010.
This research project aims to construct quantitative measures and in-depth analysis of the degree of trade facilitation, service trade liberalization, free flow of FDI and skilled labor mobility among ASEAN countries to draw implications for realization of a competitive ASEAN single market and production base which is one of the most important targets of the ASEAN Blue print.
The working group, which consists of experts in each field and ten country study groups from each ASEAN country, has developed quantitative measures called "ERIA/AEC Scorecards" on the restrictions on trade in goods, services and investment in order to complement the AEC Scorecards being developed by the ASEAN Secretariat since 2008.
The 3rd round of this research was launched with this workshop. At the workshop, the working group discussed the scope and methodologies of this round and shared their expertise necessary to carry out the research. Specifically, the scope of this year's research are; 1) updating of 4 indexes of service sectors conducted in 2008, that is medical and health services, banking and insurance services, and expanding of a index on accounting services, 2) questionnaire survey on FDI climate targeting foreign firms in each ASEAN country, 3) research on skilled labor mobility among ASEAN countries within the frame work of Mutual Recognition Agreement.
