The sixth International Conference on Sustainable Energy and Environment (SEE 2016) under the theme of 'Energy Climate Change: Innovating for a Sustainable Future' was held in Bangkok, Thailand on 28-30 November 2016, and attended by more than 200 people.

The three-day event was organised by the Joint Graduate School of Energy and Environment (JGSEE), the Center of Excellence on Energy Technology and Environment at King Mongkut's University of Technology Thonburi (KMUTT), and Kyoto University, Japan.

During the opening session, H.E. Dr Pichet Durongkaveroj, Minister of Science and Technology, Thailand gave the opening and keynote address on 'The Role of Science, Technology, and Innovation in Meeting Thailand's Climate Change Mitigation Challenges'. Minister Durongkaveroj emphasised that developing countries like Thailand should start thinking about self-reliant sustainable development and economy from the technological point of view, which makes the interlinkage between government and universities necessary. He also stated that when the government works together with the private sector, a lot of things will change, but Public Private and People Partnership (PPPP) is necessary now to tackle complex social problems.

Professor Hidetoshi Nishimura, President of the Economic Research Institute for ASEAN and East Asia (ERIA), presented his keynote lecture: Globalisation of Renewable Energy Technologies and Nationally Determined Contributions. Prof Nishimura also had a bilateral meeting with Minister Durongkaveroj. They discussed future cooperation between ERIA and the Government of Thailand in terms of technological innovation such as electric vehicles.
