The 17th ASEAN Summit, 5th East Asia Summit, and related meetings were held from 26 to 30 October 2010 in Hanoi, Vietnam. The meetings threw up some developments that are important for the economic cooperation in the region, and also hold significance for ERIA.

The 17th ASEAN Summit appreciated the contribution of ERIA to the completion of the ASEAN Connectivity Master Plan. The Chairman's Statement of the 17th ASEAN Summit recognized ERIA's contribution as follows;

"(Paragraph 8)...We also appreciated the intellectual contribution of the Economic Research Institute for ASEAN and East Asia (ERIA) as well as the Asian Development Bank and UNESCAP in supporting the completion of the ASEAN Connectivity Master Plan."
