Jakarta -- 21 August 2014: The last two decades have witnessed how free trade agreements (FTAs) have surged in Southeast Asia, how they have evolved and how they have embraced its trading partners mainly in East Asia. Indonesia has enacted 7 FTAs with its main trading partners. What are the benefits and costs of regional and multilateral trade agreements for Indonesia?
To address the issues, the Ministry of Trade of Republic of Indonesia and Economic Research Institute for ASEAN and East Asia (ERIA) will organise the East Asia Policy Dialogue on 'Indonesia in Trade Agreements' which will be held on September 12, 2014 at 09:30-11:30 (local time) at Bali Room, Kempinski Hotel Jakarta, Indonesia.
H.E. Pascal Lamy, the Honorary President, Notre Europe - Jacques Delors Institute with the prominent speakers, Mr. Bachrul Chairi, Director General, Ministry of Trade of the Republic of Indonesia, Ms. Lili Yan Ing, Economist, ERIA, and Mr. Sofyan Wanandi, Chairman, Business Association of Indonesia, will give their ideas, thoughts and research to discuss the issues more deeply. The dialogue will be moderated by Mr. Toni Prasetiantono, Senior Lecturer, Gadjah Mada University.
Mr. Muhammad Lutfi, Minister of Trade of the Republic of Indonesia and Prof. Hidetoshi Nishimura, Executive Director, ERIA, will give opening remarks to open the Dialogue.
This will be the second time of East Asia Policy Dialogue series which is organised by ERIA. The first time was held in Yogyakarta with H.E. Boediono, the Vice President of the Republic of Indonesia with topic 'How does Indonesia manage to level up its value added and improve trade competitiveness?' on April 17, 2014.
