Digital technologies have increased demand for people with digital skills and competencies, highlighting the need to invest in digital skills and talent.
A 2022 report from the Asian Development Bank (ADB) said that over the last 5 years, 75% of employers in four countries in Asia and the Pacific have reported a rise in demand for new hires with digital skills. The report also found that most employers in Bangladesh, India, Indonesia, and the Philippines now consider digital skills, such as proficiency with collaboration tools or basic internet skills for commerce, as essential workplace skills. Employers surveyed required 8 of the last 10 candidates hired to possess at least basic digital literacy and skills, and 4 of the last 10 hires to have advanced digital skills.
The webinar will explore the importance of digital skilling for organizations and workers in the Asia–Pacific, and the types of digital skills that will allow workers to increase their economic value and also allow organizations to innovate. The panel will also discuss the various digital skilling initiatives available and the role private and public sector investment can play in upskilling workers.
The webinar is part of the Digital Policy Webinar series organized by ADB, the Economic Research Institute for ASEAN and East Asia (ERIA), and Amazon Web Services (AWS). This webinar series brings together policymakers, regulators, think tanks, academia, industry, and other key stakeholders to explore how emerging technologies and forward-thinking, pro-innovation digital policies can accelerate the digital transformation journey of nations. It will focus on enhancing collective understanding about digital technologies, the benefits, and the policy best practices for digital transformation.
