On May 5, 2017, Mr Teruhiko Mashiko, Member of the House of Councillors of Japan and Vice Chairman of the Parliamentary League of the Economic Research Institute for ASEAN and East Asia (ERIA), visited ERIA's office in Jakarta.

ERIA's President, Prof Hidetoshi Nishimura, and Chief Operating Officer Izuru Kobayashi welcomed Mr Mashiko and the other delegates. They discussed possibilities for future cooperation between the Parliamentary League and ERIA.

Prior to visiting ERIA, Mr Mashiko and Prof Nishimura visited the ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Assembly (AIPA) Secretariat to exchange views on how ERIA can contribute to AIPA and ASEAN, as well as ways to enhance ERIA-AIPA Secretariat cooperation.

'AIPA plays an important role as the centre of legislation in ASEAN. I believe ERIA can support various aspects of AIPA's work,' said Mr Mashiko. Prof Nishimura and Ms Ria Rumata Aritonang, the Senior Consultant of AIPA Secretariat, stated separately in their remarks that their organisations were ready to work together to achieve their goal.
