An international conference on "moving towards a new development model for East Asia" was held in Beijing on June 25-26, 2012The conference was organized by the Academic Division of International Studies, a group of institutes for international studies in the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences (CASS), and sponsored by the Economic Research Institute for ASEAN and East Asia (ERIA).

Prof. Zhang Yunling, Chairman of the project "moving towards a new development model for East Asia" and Director of International Studies, and Prof. Hidetoshi Nishimura, Executive Director of ERIA, presided at the opening ceremony.

More than 30 scholars attended the conference. The topics discussed were wide and the attendants were very active in presenting their opinions and ideas. All the attendants recognized that East Asia plays an important role in the world and should move towards a new model of development.

In the end of the conference, Prof. Zhang Yunling gave his summary and conclusions about the topics.
