Phnom Penh, November 19, 2012 - Economic Research Institute for ASEAN and East Asia (ERIA) has submitted a series of recommendations to accelerate the economic integration to the ASEAN leaders during the 21st ASEAN Summit.
Prof. Hidetoshi Nishimura, Executive Director of ERIA, on the eve of ASEAN Summit held in Phnom Penh, handed over the report titled "The Phnom Penh Initiatives for Narrowing Development Gaps." The report is the outcome of a recent symposium "Realizing a More Integrated, Comprehensive, Equitable, and Resilient ASEAN Community" jointly organized by Royal Government of Cambodia, Harvard University and ERIA.
"This is a comprehensive report with recommendations that could be put into practice," said Prof. Nishimura.
During this occasion, ERIA also submitted the Executive Summary of Mid-Term Review of the Implementation of AEC blueprint. It was highlighted in the opening statement of Samdech Techo Prime Minister Hun Sen at the 21st ASEAN Summit. The review provides the overall assessment of the implementation measures under the AEC framework.
The third document concerns the development in Asia and Myanmar. It is the first time that a multi-year economic plan is being mapped out for Myanmar. ERIA is currently working closely with Myanmar to complete the Myanmar Comprehensive Development Vision (MCDV).
