This two-day Symposium meant to discuss and articulate to the public a number of key issues towards "Realizing a More Integrated, Competitive, Equitable, and Resilient ASEAN Community". The issues revolve around moving forward the ASEAN Economic Community, the ASEAN Socio-Cultural Community, and ASEAN Political-Security Community into 2015 and beyond. Specifically, moving the ASEAN Community forward into 2015 and beyond, addressing the following key elements:
(1)challenges of accelerating ASEAN economic community building
(2)ensuring an equitable, stable and robust growth of ASEAN
(3)ensuring a more resilient ASEAN
(4)further regulatory reforms and institutional buildings to deepen ASEAN integration and community building process
(5)enhancing connectivity, innovation, and technology capability toward a competitive, green, and smart ASEAN Community
The ideas, insights, and recommendations from the presentations and discussions in the Symposium will be consolidated into a document entitled, "Realizing a More Integrated, Competitive, Equitable, and Resilient ASEAN Community" to be part of the actions in the "Phnom Penh Agenda," adopted by ASEAN Leaders in April 2012. The Symposium is the venue for the distillation, elaboration, and discussion of key elements of the Phnom Penh Agenda to be submitted to ASEAN and East Asian Summits.
It is hoped that the deliberation of the Symposium could be presented formally to the ASEAN Heads of State by the ASEAN Secretary General and the Executive Director of ERIA during the ASEAN Summit in Phnom Penh in November 2012.
