ERIA Special Lecture on “Disaster Management”

Bridging Gaps between Local Experience and Global Science in
Disaster Management: Toward Building a Regional Platform for Distance Risk Management in Asia

Lectured by Dr. Yoshimi Nishi, Associate Professor of Kyoto University

Programme

Economic Research Institute for ASEAN and East Asia (ERIA) has conducted a variety of studies not only on economic and trade issues but also on socio-cultural ones. Given that many of ASEAN and East Asian counties are among the most disaster-prone countries in the world, ERIA examines the experience of those countries in an effort to provide recommendations to strengthen disaster relief and disaster management. The outcome of ERIA studies is embodied by, for example, Resilience and Recovery in Asian Disasters: Community Ties, Market Mechanisms, and Governance.

This is to inform you that ERIA invites Dr. Yoshimi Nishi, Associate Professor of Kyoto University, to deliver a special lecture on disaster management to policymakers, private sectors, and NGOs on 18 April 2018. The lecture will highlight the importance of leaning and understanding experience of disaster management that have been accumulated in East Asia in promoting international/regional cooperation and building societies resilient to disasters. In addition, the lecture will provide a view on how disaster management contributes to resolving other social problems such as conflicts by making reference to the case of Aceh, Indonesia.
