Education

Dr Giulia Ajmone Marsan holds Bachelor and Master degrees in Applied Mathematics from the Polytechnic School of Turin, Italy, and a PhD in Economics and Complex Systems jointly awarded from the Ecole des Hautes Etudes en Sciences Sociales, Paris, France, and the IMT Institute for Advanced Studies, Lucca, Italy.

Experience

Dr Ajmone Marsan is a strategist in innovation, technology, start-ups, and entrepreneurship, boasting over 15 yers of experience in economic policy analysis, advice, capacity building, and economic diplomacy. Throughout her career, she has provided counsel to a diverse range of government officials, international organisations, and other innovation stakeholders worldwide, spanning ASEAN and Asia, Latin America, Africa, MENA, and OECD countries.

She presently serves as Head of Startup and Inclusion Program at ERIA. Before joining ERIA, Giulia worked as an Innovation Economist at the OECD (Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development). Her analyses, publications, op-eds, and commentaries have been featured in leading international journals and media outlets. Giulia occasionally lectures on science, technology, and innovation trends and policy, as well as on ASEAN trade integration, geopolitics, economics, and multilateralism at prominent international universities.

In 2023, Giulia served as the Co-Chair of the Inclusion Task Force of Startup20, the G20 innovation and entrepreneurship engagement group under G20 India. Currently, she chairs the Steering Committee of the OECD Entrepreneurship Education Collaboration and Engagement (EECOLE) Initiative. Giulia is a member of the World Economic Forum (WEF)’s Expert Network and collaborates extensively with development banks (such as the Asian Development Bank, Inter-American Development Bank), UN agencies (including UNCTAD, UNIDO, and FAO), the Digital Cooperation Organisation (DCO), and other leading multilateral bodies, think tanks, and universities. Since 2023, she has been an associate at the Edinburgh Futures Institute in the UK.
