Deputy Minister of MITI Malaysia Meets ERIA President to Strengthen Regional Cooperation

Jakarta, 14 August 2025: YB Liew Chin Tong, Deputy Minister of Malaysia’s Ministry of Investment, Trade, and Industry (MITI) and Co-Chair of the ASEAN Geoeconomics Task Force (AGTF), paid a courtesy call on ERIA President Tetsuya Watanabe at ERIA’s headquarters in Jakarta.

The visit took place during YB Liew’s official trip to Indonesia to attend the AGTF meeting in Bogor. He expressed appreciation for ERIA’s continued engagement and intellectual contributions to the AGTF’s work, highlighting the value of ERIA’s in-depth analysis in shaping regional policy discussions.

YB Liew underscored the importance of deepening cooperation between Malaysia, ERIA, and the AGTF to tackle emerging challenges and seize new opportunities for ASEAN.

President Watanabe thanked YB Liew for his visit and reaffirmed ERIA’s commitment to supporting the AGTF and the Government of Malaysia during its ASEAN Chairmanship this year. Both sides also explored potential areas for collaboration, including industrialisation, trade diversification, and strengthening advocacy and business engagement across the region.
