StartUp 20 Event: Transitioning Towards Sustainable Food System

This webinar is organized under Startup 20, one of the official engagement groups, established under the G20 India Presidency 2023, which is further divided into 3 task forces, namely Foundation & Alliances, Finance, Inclusion & Sustainability. It acts as a dialogue forum between multiple global startup ecosystem stakeholders to identify macroeconomic concerns and challenges faced by startups in G20 leader nations. The Sustainability Task Force, in partnership with the Economic Research Institute for ASEAN and East Asia (ERIA), will organize an online interactive event to discuss how innovation and business creation can contribute to addressing the transition towards Sustainable Food Systems. Many governments around the world are increasingly recognising the role innovations and digital technologies play to reduce CO2 emissions, change the way food is consumed by citizens, reduce waste and regenerate agriculture. These practices are being embedded into government strategies to address food and sustainability.

The aim of the online event is to identify best practices, benchmarks and solutions for Startups Solving for Sustainability ; among G20 and invitee countries. The takeaways will be reflected into a technical note summarizing key messages from the discussion to be prepared by SELCO Foundation and ERIA. Key messages from the technical note will be integrated into the framework/policy guide that Start 20 will submit to G20 Leaders ahead of the G20 Summit.

Questions to be addressed:

  1. What has been the role of your organization/ StartUp in looking at Food Systems Transitions. How do you articulate/measure outcomes and impact? Any thoughts on benchmarking or indicators for StartUps working on Food Systems Transition.
  2. What are the challenges in the current  innovation ecosystem to promote the emergence of sustainable food systems?  Who are the key stakeholders that are part of this ecosystem that can enable change?  Are there specific asks that Startups have in terms of ecosystem support?
  3. What are the linkages or expectations from Startup20 and learnings across G20 that can facilitate ecosystem building for StartUps Solving for SDGs? How can like-minded innovators be connected globally to accelerate the sustainable food system transformation?
