The Role of LNG and Natural Gas Toward and Beyond the Energy Transition in Asia

The Role of LNG and Natural Gas Toward and Beyond the Energy Transition in Asia

Project Overview

LNG plays an important role in addressing the energy trilemma in ASEAN and East Asia. This study aims to support policymakers in the region by providing rigorous data to assess the role of LNG and natural gas, taking into account geopolitical influences and economic security perspectives. It will also collaborate with academic and research institutions to formulate appropriate policy recommendations.

The study consists of:

  • Macro demand/supply outlook of LNG and natural gas, demand/supply outlook for major countries, analysis/forecast of the supply/demand structure for LNG and natural gas, factors pushing up/down each demand/supply side, their influence, and their impact.
  • Outlook of the energy mix in Asian countries based on the expansion and limitations of renewable energy introduction, the role played by coal and gas-fired power generation, and perspectives on fuel procurement according to the role.
  • Technical and cost analysis regarding low carbon emissions including methane abatement measures in the LNG and natural gas value chain and the transition to zero or lower carbon gas.
  • Investment trends based on policy trends related to incentives and disincentives in each country, and analysis of the necessity of upstream investment to ensure ample and stable supply of LNG and natural gas to Asia.
