ERIA Highlights Regional Energy Transition Priorities at EAS Energy Ministers’ Meeting
Manila, 8 October 2026: At the East Asia Summit (EAS) Energy Ministers’ Meeting, ERIA President Tetsuya Watanabe presented the Institute’s recent energy policy research, highlighting practical approaches to decarbonisation that also address energy security and affordability.
The presentation outlined how ERIA links long-term energy planning with sectoral priorities and investment needs.
President Watanabe also highlighted ERIA’s research on the ASEAN Power Grid, which supports a gradual approach to regional connectivity, building on existing bilateral electricity trade while taking into account the readiness of participating economies.
The presentation also covered sustainable biofuels, responsible critical-mineral supply chains, and carbon capture, utilisation, and storage (CCUS). These areas address shared regional challenges, including balancing fuel needs with food security and environmental sustainability, while supporting the development of regional capabilities and investment.
