Tokyo/Jakarta, 8 October 2026: The Japan Center for International Exchange (JCIE) and ERIA today announced the winners of the 5th Healthy Aging Prize for Asian Innovation (HAPI). For this fifth edition, the award introduced three new categories – Care & Wellbeing, Social Engagement, and Supportive Environments – to better reflect the diversity of organisations and initiatives supporting older adults across East and Southeast Asia.

This year’s award attracted the most competitive field of applications to date. A total of 14 organisations were recognised for their innovative work across the three categories, following evaluation by an international committee of six experts from across the region.

The applications reflected several emerging trends in healthy ageing. An increasing number of organisations are using artificial intelligence (AI) to improve healthcare delivery in diverse settings. Others are empowering older people to contribute to their communities, drawing on their experience and capabilities to foster a sense of purpose and strengthen community life. Several initiatives also focused on creating more supportive environments through universal design and dementia-friendly approaches.

In addition to the Grand Prize, Second Prize, and Honorable Mention awards, the committee selected three initiatives for special commendation. Although these initiatives did not advance to the final round, the committee recognised their contributions to three important areas: addressing the professional and emotional needs of caregivers; nurturing the next generation of innovative leaders in healthy ageing and caregiving; and strengthening community resilience in areas exposed to natural disasters.

The Grand Prize winners will receive their awards at a ceremony in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, on 10 November 2026. The ceremony will take place alongside the Silver Economy Forum, to be held on 11–12 November and hosted by the Global Coalition on Aging (GCOA).
