ERIA School of Government Engages with The Bank of Fukuoka for 6th Semiconductor Policy Dialogue

Fukuoka, 20 November 2025: The ERIA School of Government (SoG), in collaboration with Japan’s Ministry of Economy, Trade, and Industry (METI), conducted the sixth round of the Executive Dialogue on Semiconductor Policy with The Bank of Fukuoka, Ltd., one of the financial backers of Kyushu’s Silicon Island ecosystem.

The dialogue gathered representatives from Indonesia, including H.E. Nezar Patria, Vice Minister of Communications and Digital Affairs; H.E. Faisol Riza, Vice Minister of Industry; and Mr Sofyari Rahman, Industry Attaché at the Embassy of Indonesia in Tokyo. The Bank of Fukuoka was represented by President Hisashi Goto and other key representatives.

Discussions featured an overview of Kyushu’s semiconductor ecosystem – dubbed Silicon Island – centred around the first TSMC plant in Japan. Participants also highlighted the strong collaboration amongst industry, government, universities, technical institutions, and financial actors. Vice Minister Faisol Riza acknowledged the complexity of the semiconductor sector, and both sides expressed a shared commitment to advancing cooperation between Indonesia and Japan.

The session underscored the essential role of financial institutions in enabling semiconductor industry development and deepening collaboration between regions. This round further reinforces the ERIA SoG’s commitment to strengthening regional policy co-operation and advancing shared strategic priorities.
