ERIA Launches Third Wave of Longitudinal Study on Ageing and Health in the Philippines and Viet Nam

Manila, 8 August 2026: Training for the Third Wave of the Longitudinal Study of Ageing and Health in the Philippines (LSAHP Wave 3) was successfully conducted in Manila from 6 to 8 August 2026. The training prepared field enumerators and project personnel for the upcoming data collection phase and addressed key technical and operational issues.

Hosted by the Demographic Research and Development Foundation (DRDF), the training brought together the Philippine project team, field enumerators, and Dr Wan Seok Chang, Health Economist for Health and Social Welfare Policies at ERIA and Co-Principal Investigator of the LSAH project.

The training focused on equipping field personnel with the necessary skills and experience to review survey instruments, data collection protocols, and field procedures to ensure high-quality and consistent data collection. Participants also explored potential analysis techniques, including examining health transitions over time by gender and age group using data from Waves 1 and 2.

In parallel, training for the Longitudinal Study of Ageing and Health in Viet Nam (LSAHV Wave 3) was held in Ha Noi on 16–17 July 2026 and organised by the Institute of Population, Health and Development (PHAD). The training was attended by the Viet Nam project and field teams under the supervision of Dr Liem Nguyen, Programme Manager for Social Welfare at ERIA and Principal Investigator of the LSAH project. Field data collection in Viet Nam commenced shortly after the training.

These training activities represent important milestones for the LSAHP and LSAHV projects, helping to ensure that field teams are well prepared to uphold rigorous data collection standards and support the generation of high-quality longitudinal evidence on ageing and health in the Philippines and Viet Nam.
