DECIDE Training Book Advancing Monitoring, Policy, and Engagement for Marine Plastic Pollution in ASEAN

Plastic pollution remains a critical challenge for ASEAN, requiring harmonised monitoring, robust data, and stronger collaboration between policymakers and researchers. Developed by ERIA’s Regional Knowledge Centre for Marine Plastic Debris under the Data and Evidence to Catalyse Informed Decision-making and Engagement (DECIDE) initiative, the DECIDE Training Book: Advancing Monitoring, Policy, and Engagement for Plastic Pollution in ASEAN provides practical guidance to support evidence-based policymaking.

This book consolidates knowledge, methodologies, and lessons learned from regional efforts to monitor plastic pollution. It covers plastic pollution trends, monitoring tools and methodologies, data visualisation, policy development, and stakeholder engagement. The book supports policymakers in translating monitoring data into effective policies and action plans, while encouraging researchers and practitioners to help close data gaps and communicate scientific findings effectively. Ultimately, this publication contributes to regional efforts to combat marine plastic pollution and advance evidence-based policymaking across ASEAN.
