ERIA Explores Industrial Applications of Quantum Computing at High-Level Roundtable
Jakarta, 21 September 2026: The ERIA School of Government organised the ‘ERIA–AIST Executive Roundtable on Quantum Computing’ at the ERIA Headquarters in Jakarta. This closed session brought together senior leadership from Japan’s National Institute of Advanced Industrial Science and Technology (AIST/G-Qu AT), Indonesia’s Ministry of Industry, Danantara Indonesia, and the National Defence Council of Indonesia to align public policy, industrial supply chains, and commercial technology strategy.
The discussion built on ERIA’s ongoing engagement on quantum computing, following the institute’s visit to AIST in Japan last March. Participants explored ways to transition advanced computing capabilities from laboratory research into high-value industrial applications across the region.
The roundtable featured Dr Masahiro Horibe, Deputy Director of G-Qu AT at AIST; H.E. Faisol Riza, Deputy Minister of Industry of Indonesia; Mr Rifqi Ansari, Director of Electronics Industry at the Ministry of Industry; Mr Ricardo Irwan Rei, Managing Director of Strategic Technology Initiatives at Danantara Indonesia; Dr I Made Ariya Sanjaya, Senior Vice President of Strategic Technology Initiatives at Danantara Indonesia; Dr Yayat Ruyat, M. Eng., Deputy for Geoeconomics at Indonesia’s National Defence Council of Indonesia; and Dr Achmad Rully, Expert Staff at the National Defence Council.
Dr Horibe, who delivered the keynote presentation, outlined G-Qu AT's hybrid computing infrastructure and the importance of establishing practical use cases in sectors such as energy, logistics, biotechnology, and financial services, while developing open collaboration frameworks for regional partners. H.E. Faisol Riza underscored the importance of strategic positioning within the global quantum supply chain.
Discussions focused on practical entry points and regional collaboration frameworks, supported by international research exchanges and multidisciplinary talent development. Participants also examined long-term technology roadmaps, data governance considerations, and cybersecurity resilience to protect national digital assets.
The event reaffirmed ERIA’s mission to cultivate and synthesise the region's leading policies to connect science, technology, and industry.
