Jakarta, 25 March 2024: ERIA and the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources of the Republic of Indonesia signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on 25 March 2024, to solidify their commitment to accelerating the energy transition within the region.

The signing ceremony, which saw the participation of the Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Arifin Tasrif and the President of ERIA Tetsuya Watanabe, provided a platform for both parties to exchange views on crucial strategies for achieving this shared objective. Both parties recognised the importance of efforts to explore possible options to achieve realistic energy transitions aimed at reducing carbon dioxide emissions while ensuring economic growth.

In the meeting before the ceremony, Minister Tasrif and President Watanabe discussed possible cooperations in the future, especially under the Asia Zero Emission Community framework. Minister Tasrif also strongly supported the establishment of the Asia Zero Emission Centre within ERIA's Jakarta office. The centre is envisioned to play a pivotal role in driving regional efforts towards net-zero emissions. Both ERIA and the Ministry emphasised their unwavering commitment to fostering a stronger relationship.

The MOU between ERIA and Ministry was signed by ERIA’s Chief Operating Officer Koji Hachiyama and the Secretary General of MEMR Dr Dadan Kusdiana.

This collaboration is instrumental in tackling the challenges of climate change and propelling the region towards a sustainable energy future.
