ERIA and BRIN Sign MoU to Strengthen Research Collaboration and Evidence-Based Policymaking
Jakarta, 12 August 2026: ERIA and Indonesia’s National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to strengthen collaboration in research, innovation, and evidence-based policymaking in support of Indonesia’s development priorities and ASEAN’s regional agenda.
The agreement was signed by ERIA President Tetsuya Watanabe and BRIN Chairman Prof. Arif Satria. The signing ceremony was also attended by senior ERIA representatives, including the Dean of the ERIA School of Government, Chief of Staff, and Governing Board Member for Indonesia, as well as representatives from relevant units. BRIN Coordination Deputies and Directors, together with delegates from other research organisations, also attended the ceremony.
The partnership reflects a shared commitment to addressing increasingly complex regional and global challenges through research, knowledge exchange, and strategic collaboration. As ASEAN continues to navigate economic transformation, demographic shifts, climate challenges, and technological advancement, ERIA and BRIN recognise the importance of strengthening research partnerships to generate practical and policy-relevant solutions.
Under the MoU, ERIA and BRIN will explore joint research projects, knowledge-sharing events, capacity-building programmes, joint publications, and other collaborative activities that promote research excellence and policy innovation. The partnership will also draw on ERIA’s regional policy expertise across areas including economic integration and trade, science and technology, energy transition, healthcare resilience, social welfare, environmental sustainability, agriculture and food systems, and governance.
Through the partnership, ERIA and BRIN aim to establish a strong platform for research collaboration, promote innovation, and generate evidence-based policy recommendations that contribute to sustainable development in Indonesia and ASEAN.
