Datin Dr Intan Murnira Ramli is currently a Senior Policy Fellow in the Policy Design Department, Economic Research Institute for ASEAN and East Asia (ERIA), Jakarta, Indonesia. Intan provides policy research, advice and supports to ASEAN Member States on multilateral and regional matters ranging from ASEAN Economic Integration, trade in services, investment, free trade agreements, and emerging issues which include circular economy and technologies related to IR 4.0, and good regulatory practices. Intan also covers interphase between ERIA and other international organisations including ADB, APEC, East-Asia Summit, ESCAP, G20, OECD, WEF, World Bank, World Trade Institute and WTO. Intan has also served as a member of the Trade and Industry Advisory Council of the Ministry of International Trade and Investment and is a board member of the Asia Pacific Investment Network.
Prior to ERIA, Intan served the Government of Malaysia for more than 20 years, mainly dealing with multilateral and bilateral trade, investment, aviation policy, double-taxation, economic and financial matters. Intan represented Malaysia at various United Nations meetings including the Human Rights Council, International Law Commission and 6th Committee of the United Nations General Assembly. In recognition of her expertise, Intan was awarded a Fellowship by the US Department of Justice at the National Institute of Justice, South Carolina, USA. Intan was also part of the TPP negotiating team attending the admission of Malaysia into the TPP at the fourth round of the negotiation in Auckland, New Zealand in 2010. Apart from TPP, Intan was also part of the negotiating teams for several Malaysian and ASEAN preferential trade agreements and RCEP. For her service to the Government of Malaysia, Intan was awarded the Medal for Excellent Service of the Prime Minister’s Department, Malaysia in 2014. Intan holds an LL.M from Nottingham University, UK, an International Trade Diploma from the World Trade Institute, Bern, Switzerland and a PhD in International Trade Law from the University of Kent, UK.
