In the session on a secure and resilient ASEAN Economic Community, President Watanabe highlighted regional joint oil stockpiling, implementation of the ASEAN Digital Economy Framework Agreement (DEFA), and the ASEAN Power Grid. He emphasised the importance of translating regional commitments into practical action through closer cooperation between governments and businesses.

During the AEM discussion on an ASEAN–Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) free trade agreement, President Watanabe provided an update on ASEAN-GCC relationship. He outlined potential areas for early collaboration included energy and food security, investment, digital transformation, and sustainability.

At the 32nd consultation between AEM and Japan’s Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI), ERIA outlined opportunities to strengthen ASEAN–Japan co-operation in energy security, supply chains, digital technologies, and human capital development.

At the 14th East Asia Summit Economic Ministers’ Meeting, President Watanabe examined how reliable energy supplies and regional connectivity can support industrial competitiveness.
