Jakarta, 11 August 2025: ERIA is honoured to announce that the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) of Japan has appointed Mr Masakazu Tokura, former Chairman of the Japan Business Federation (Keidanren), to the ERIA Governing Board. He succeeds Mr Sadayuki Sakakibara, who has served with distinction since 2019.

With a career spanning more than 4 decades, Mr Tokura has held senior leadership positions in leading multinational corporations and is recognised as one of Japan’s most influential business figures. He brings extensive expertise in global economic affairs and deep experience in Asian markets. Beyond his corporate achievements, he has made significant contributions to public service through his roles on government advisory councils and policy development bodies.

Mr Tokura graduated from the Faculty of Economics at The University of Tokyo. His appointment is expected to further strengthen ERIA’s work in advancing economic integration and co-operation across ASEAN and East Asia.

The ERIA Governing Board, composed of the ASEAN Secretary-General and representatives from 16 countries, serves as the institute’s highest decision-making body. With Mr Tokura’s wealth of experience, ERIA looks forward to benefitting from his insights in shaping future policies and initiatives.
