Jakarta, 20 February 2024: ERIA welcomed Kjell Tormod Pettersen, the Ambassador of Norway to ASEAN, to discuss further cooperation in the blue economy. During the meeting, Ambassador Pettersen shared the common interest that ASEAN and Norway have in terms of sustainable shipping and promoted ASEANO project that Norway has undertaken in the ASEAN region. He also expressed an interest in exploring possible future cooperation with ERIA, recognising ERIA’s extensive experience in drafting the ASEAN Blue Economy Framework under the Indonesian Chairmanship of ASEAN in 2023.

As the threat of climate change knows no borders, Dr Intan Murnira Ramli, Senior Policy Fellow of ERIA, highlighted that cooperation with ASEAN's external partners is crucial in advancing blue economy policy in the region and the world. Discussions also focused on the development of the ASEAN Blue Economy Implementation Plan and the ASEAN-Norway Blue Economy Seminar, scheduled for the end of April 2024.
