ERIA President Pays Courtesy Visit to Brunei Darussalam’s Minister of Transport and Infocommunications

Bandar Seri Begawan, 21 April 2025: As part of his official visit to Brunei Darussalam to attend the ASEAN Centre for Climate Change (ACCC) workshop – co-organised by ERIA and Brunei’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs – ERIA President Tetsuya Watanabe paid a courtesy visit to His Excellency Pengiran Dato Seri Setia Shamhary bin Pengiran Dato Paduka Haji Mustapha, Minister of Transport and Infocommunications of Brunei Darussalam.

During the meeting, President Watanabe shared key outcomes from the ACCC workshop and introduced the activities of ERIA’s Asia Zero Emission Center (AZEC), with a particular focus on sustainable mobility and low-emission transport. He also provided updates on ERIA’s Digital Innovation and Sustainable Economy Center (E-DISC), highlighting ongoing initiatives that align with the Ministry’s strategic priorities.

The discussion covered several areas of mutual interest, including the development of sustainable aviation fuel (SAF), the role of digital innovation in building smarter cities, and the advancement of artificial intelligence technologies such as Large Language Models (LLMs). Both parties explored potential areas for collaboration, particularly in promoting low-carbon transport and accelerating digital transformation.

The meeting reaffirmed ERIA’s commitment to working closely with Brunei Darussalam in support of the region’s sustainable development goals and a shared vision for a greener, smarter future.
