ERIA and Ministry of Trade Strengthen Policy Analysis through Special Journal Collaboration

Jakarta, 8 July 2026: ERIA, in collaboration with the Trade Policy Agency (Badan Kebijakan Perdagangan) of Indonesia's Ministry of Trade, held a Policy Paper Writing Workshop as part of the Special Collaboration Edition of the Trade Policy Journal (TPJ) at the ERIA Office in Jakarta.

The workshop marked an important milestone in the ongoing partnership between ERIA and the Ministry of Trade. It followed the successful Toolkit for Trade Policy Analysis training programme, conducted from February to May 2026, which equipped participants with practical analytical tools for assessing strategic trade policy issues.

Building on the policy analyses developed during the training, the workshop focused on helping participants transform their work into publication-ready manuscripts capable of contributing to evidence-based policy discussions.

In her welcome remarks, Ms Megawati, Trade Policy Fellow at ERIA, emphasised that effective policymaking requires not only rigorous analysis and sound policy recommendations but also the ability to communicate findings clearly and systematically. She noted that the workshop was designed to bridge the gap between policy analysis and academic writing by providing practical guidance on preparing high-quality policy papers for publication.

Opening the workshop, Mr Muhammad Suaib Sulaiman, Secretary of the Trade Policy Agency, described the event as an important step in transforming participants' analytical work into publishable policy papers while strengthening a culture of evidence-based trade policymaking.

The 1-day programme brought together approximately 50 researchers and policy analysts from ERIA and Indonesia's Ministry of Trade. During the workshop, Ms Maulida Lestari, Head of Programmes and Co-operation at the Trade Policy Agency, introduced the Trade Policy Journal, while Mr Andrika Sembiring explained the journal's manuscript requirements. Members of the TPJ Editorial Board, including Dr Wayan R. Susila of Universitas Prasetiya Mulya and Prof. Dr Zamroni Salim of the National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN), shared their expertise and provided hands-on guidance throughout the manuscript development process.

The Special Collaboration Edition of the Trade Policy Journal reflects the shared commitment of ERIA and Indonesia's Ministry of Trade to strengthening research collaboration, enhancing analytical capacity, and promoting high-quality policy research to support evidence-based decision-making in Indonesia and across ASEAN.
