ERIA and IEA hold a one-day workshop in Jakarta, 3 September 2014, to face the growth in energy demand.
Economic Research Institute for ASEAN and East Asia (ERIA) together with International Energy Agency (IEA) will organize a workshop to seek a broad appreciation of coal-fired power generation in Southeast and East Asia region on 3 September, 2014 at Kempinksi Grand Ballroom A, the Hotel Indonesia Kempinski Jakarta, Indonesia.
Asia is facing strong, continued growth in energy demand, ERIA and IEA projecting a double coal consumption for Southeast and East Asia region and a tripling of coal consumption for Southeast Asia between 2011 and 2035. A direct consequence of this, of course, will be increased emissions--both of local pollutants and of CO2. While the choice of technology for power generation has a role to play, to reduce emissions effectively there are important factors to be considered along the whole coal chain, from coal mine to power plant.
The objectives of this workshop are to discuss the coal power markets in Asia, to identify the issues and challenges in clean coal technology, and to exchange regional experiences in development of carbon capture and storage system.
The joint workshop will be presided-over by of H. E Ir. Susilo Siswoutomo, Vice-Minister of Ministry of Energy & Minerals Resources (MEMR), Indonesia. Some of the prominent moderators and speakers which will be contributed on this workshop are Dr. Keith Burnard, Head of Energy Supply Technology Unit, IEA Secretariat, Mr. Kazumi NISHIKAWA/Special Advisor to METI Minister, Dr. Jiraporn Sirikum, Deputy Director, Generation System Development Planning Department, EGAT, Thailand, Dr. Wolf Heidug, CCS Unit, IEA Secretariat.
