The 9th ERIA Editors’ Roundtable - Viet Nam 25: Coping with COVID-19 Challenges’

The COVID-19 pandemic poses significant challenges to the media community in East Asia. Their knowledge and abilities to share data and information, as well as exchange best practices, are pivotal to raise awareness and understanding both for the policymakers and public to manage the coronavirus. Since the outbreak, media professionals in our region have done their best to disseminate fact-based information. As a result, appropriate responses have been developed and implemented to mitigate the virus spread.

In response to COVID-19, ASEAN is finalizing a comprehensive recovery plan for all members which will be approved and announced by the ASEAN Leaders at the 37th ASEAN Summit in Danang on 14 November 2020. This plan will engage all stakeholders from government agencies, industries, the private sector, and other relevant entities. Under Vietnam’s strong chairmanship, throughout the pandemic, the ASEAN leaders have expressed their determination for a speedy regional recovery.

Given the current circumstances, the 9th ERIA Editors’ Roundtable will be held online for the first time. Through social media, this event is expected to draw in a large audience from the region and beyond. Online participants will learn first-hand from ASEAN policymakers about how they are trying to bring back their robust economy and connectivity. Through this interaction, editors and media influencers will be able to strengthen their capacities to cover the pandemic and the region’s recovery plan with a clear eye.
