Ha Noi, 24 Apr 2024: Foreign Minister Bui Thanh Son expressed appreciation for ERIA's significant contributions to the development of various essential ASEAN documents, including the ASEAN Vision Post-2025. He noted ERIA's active support for Viet Nam during its ASEAN Chairmanship Year in 2020 and its ongoing collaboration in conducting high-quality research activities.
On 24 April, at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Headquarters, Foreign Minister Bui Thanh Son welcomed Professor Tetsuya Watanabe, President of the Economic Research Institute for ASEAN and East Asia (ERIA), who led a delegation of ERIA experts to Viet Nam to participate in the ASEAN Future Forum 2024.
During the meeting, Minister Bui Thanh Son congratulated Professor Watanabe on his appointment as the new Chairman of ERIA. He thanked ERIA and personally commended President Watanabe for their active support in organising the ASEAN Future Forum 2024 in collaboration with the Diplomatic Academy, expressing his desire for continued long-term support from ERIA for such forums.
Minister Bui Thanh Son also emphasised the importance of future cooperation, suggesting that ERIA continue collaborating with Vietnamese ministries and agencies to conduct research, analyse situations, and propose ideas and solutions for the development of the Socio-Economic Development Plan 2026–2030. Additionally, with the upcoming APEC Vietnam Year in 2027, he requested ERIA's cooperation in exploring new ideas and initiatives for APEC.
President Watanabe expressed gratitude to Minister Bui Thanh Son for the warm reception and congratulated the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Diplomatic Academy on the successful organisation of the ASEAN Future Forum 2024. He affirmed ERIA's commitment to extending close and long-term cooperation with Vietnamese ministries, agencies, and research institutions. ERIA is also prepared to collaborate with and support the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Diplomatic Academy in enhancing their research capacities.
Minister Bui Thanh Son wished President Watanabe and the ERIA delegation a fruitful and pleasant business trip in Viet Nam. Both sides affirmed their commitment to continued close cooperation, aiming to contribute to the development and prosperity of the region.
