Jakarta, 16 May 2024: ERIA, in collaboration with the ASEAN Secretariat and the Coordinating Ministry for Economic Affairs (CMEA) of Indonesia, convened the second Regulatory Impact Analysis (RIA) Workshop Series in Jakarta from 15-16 May 2024. Building upon insights gleaned from the preceding Good Regulatory Practice (GRP) workshop held 16-17 January 2024, this event marked phases 3 and 4 of the ongoing Piloting GRP Project centred on the Electric Vehicles and Battery Industry in ASEAN.

The primary aim was to validate the Initial Regulatory Impact Statement (RIS), encompassing Elements 1-4, and advance the Impact Analysis for the remaining elements (5-7). Over 20 representatives from eight line ministries and government agencies in Indonesia actively participated, including the Coordinating Ministry for Economic Affairs, Coordinating Ministry for Maritime and Investment Affairs, Ministry of Industry, Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, Ministry of Transportation, Ministry of Environment and Forestry, and the National Standardization Agency.

Netty Muharni from the CMEA and Dr Intan Murnira Ramli inaugurated the workshop, initiating 2 days of collaborative discussions guided by experts Hilmy Yazid and Mohamad Izahar. The workshop kicked off with a recap of Workshop Series 1, followed by the validation of the draft initial RIS and focused discussion sessions on various elements, including consultation. The event concluded with a comprehensive summary, outlining the way forward and closing remarks.

This workshop successfully achieved its objectives, fostering meaningful discussions and collaboration amongst key stakeholders in the EV and Battery Industry. The validated findings and recommendations are poised to make significant contributions to regulatory impact analysis within Indonesia and the broader ASEAN region. Subsequently, a Regulatory Impact Statement report will be generated based on the validated findings from this workshop, which marks the completion of all the initiatives under the ASEAN GRP Workplan 2016–2025.
