ERIA and Mongolia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs Sign MoU to Deepen Cooperation

Jakarta, 21 May 2025: ERIA signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Mongolia to enhance cooperation and deepen Mongolia’s engagement with ASEAN and East Asia.
The signing ceremony took place at ERIA’s headquarters in Jakarta, marking a renewed commitment to advancing joint initiatives in research, policy dialogue, and capacity building. The MoU was signed by ERIA President H.E. Mr Tetsuya Watanabe and H.E. Ms Battsetseg Batmunkh, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Mongolia.
President Watanabe welcomed Minister Battsetseg and expressed appreciation for Mongolia’s sustained interest in ASEAN and East Asian regionalism, as well as its recognition of ERIA as a trusted knowledge partner.
‘ERIA and Mongolia share a history of meaningful collaboration, including during the 2016 ASEM Summit. We are pleased to renew this partnership and explore new, concrete areas of cooperation,’ said President Watanabe.
Minister Battsetseg reaffirmed Mongolia’s commitment to regional cooperation and expressed gratitude to ERIA for its continued support. She emphasised Mongolia’s interest in strengthening institutional knowledge of ASEAN, particularly through training programmes for Mongolian diplomats and experts.
The MoU outlines key areas of collaboration, including joint research, policy consultation, stakeholder dialogue, and capacity building. These efforts aim to support Mongolia’s engagement with regional frameworks and advance its aspirations to deepen economic and diplomatic linkages with ASEAN and East Asia.
