ERIA and ASEAN Deepen Ties in Support of Regional Leadership and Dialogue

Jakarta, 22 May 2025: ERIA President Tetsuya Watanabe and Prof. Nobuhiro Aizawa, Dean of the ERIA School of Government, paid a courtesy visit to H.E. Dr Kao Kim Hourn, Secretary-General of ASEAN, at the ASEAN Headquarters in Jakarta.

President Watanabe and Prof. Aizawa expressed their deep appreciation to the ASEAN Secretariat for its continued support of the ERIA School of Government Leadership Lecture Series. The second lecture in the series, delivered by Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen, President of the Senate of Cambodia, was successfully held at the ERIA office in Jakarta on 6 May 2025.

H.E. Dr Kao congratulated ERIA on the event’s success and highlighted the importance of such initiatives in fostering regional dialogue. He underscored the value of providing opportunities for youth and academia to engage with and learn from distinguished Southeast Asian leaders like Samdech Techo Hun Sen.

President Watanabe also briefed the Secretary-General on ERIA’s ongoing initiatives and strategic outlook, expressing a strong commitment to deepening collaboration with the ASEAN Secretariat.

The meeting reaffirmed ERIA’s dedication to supporting ASEAN’s goals through leadership development, policy dialogue, and enhanced regional cooperation.
