The Aceh Peace Agreement stands as a historic milestone for Indonesia and a distinguished example of effective conflict resolution. More than a national triumph, the peace process in Aceh has garnered international admiration for its inclusive approach, constructive dialogue, and steadfast commitment to reconciliation. Aceh’s journey following the signing of the agreement demonstrates that even after prolonged conflict, enduring peace is possible when nurtured through mutual trust, broad-based participation, and an unwavering dedication to justice and harmony.

Building on this legacy, the ERIA School of Government is honored to convene key figures who contributed to the success of the Aceh peace process. The event will feature firsthand accounts from leaders, negotiators, and representatives across diverse sectors, each offering unique insights into the negotiation dynamics, implementation strategies, and collaborative efforts that shaped this remarkable achievement. These reflections are invaluable for understanding not only Aceh’s transformative journey but also the practical pathways toward sustainable peace in other contexts.

This achievement is the result of deliberate and collaborative efforts at every stage of the peace process. From early dialogues to formal negotiations, implementation, and reconciliation, each phase reflects the collective commitment of diverse actors, including government officials, negotiators, civil society representatives, community leaders, and international partners. Their dedication and cooperation underscore the complex yet indispensable nature of peacebuilding.

As an exemplary model of conflict transformation, the Aceh Peace Agreement continues to inform regional discourse on peacebuilding and offers guidance for similar efforts worldwide. The upcoming commemoration seeks not only to celebrate this historic accomplishment but also to foster meaningful dialogue on applying Indonesia’s experience to contemporary challenges in Southeast Asia and beyond. A series of key speaker sessions will facilitate knowledge-sharing and engagement with those directly involved in this extraordinary achievement.
