Aceh, 8 August 2025: The Dean of the ERIA School of Government, Prof. Nobuhiro Aizawa, met with H.E. Teungku Malik Mahmud Al Haythar, Wali Nanggroe of Aceh, the cultural leader entrusted with safeguarding Acehnese identity in the post-conflict era.

Wali Nanggroe shared historical insights into the Acehnese people and their journey toward peace, as well as his perspectives on the objectives of the upcoming ERIA School of Government event: the Commemoration of the 20th Anniversary of the Aceh Peace Agreement.

The commemoration will bring together key figures who played pivotal roles in the peace process. It aims not only to celebrate a landmark in Indonesia’s recent history, but also to foster meaningful dialogue on the broader lessons of Aceh’s experience for conflict resolution in Southeast Asia and beyond. Wali Nanggroe is scheduled to deliver a keynote address on the opening day of the event.

The meeting underscores the ERIA School of Government’s commitment to cultivating the next generation of public leaders in ASEAN and East Asia, with a strong emphasis on public policy, dialogue, peacebuilding, and inclusive governance.
