ERIA presentation in the 'ASEAN Business Roundtable'

Dr. Dionisius Narjoko, researcher of ERIA, was invited to give a presentation about services liberalization for the ASEAN Economic Community (AEC) 2015 in one of ASEAN Business Roundtables organized by the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KADIN Indonesia) on September 26, 2013 in Jakarta, Indonesia.

The ASEAN Business Roundtable was recently launched by KADIN Indonesia as a forum to both disseminate and exchange information between academia, experts, government and business sectors.

The ASEAN Business Roundtable was opened by Mr. Chris Kanter, Vice Chairman of Trade and International Relations, KADIN Indonesia & C-Founder of the "Indonesia Services Dialogue'. Dr. Sjamsu Rahardja of the World Bank was another panelist in the Rountable.

Dr. Narjoko presented the progress of services liberalization under the recent ASEAN Framework Agreement for Services (AFAS) commitments package. The extent of committed liberalization across the ASEAN member states was presented for all modes of services and for major services sectors prioritized for ASEAN services liberalization. Dr. Narjoko highlighted some key observations on the nature or characteristics of the commitments made by the ASEAN member states in AFAS packages.

The talk presented by the panelist contributed to lively discussions among the participants, not only on the challenges but also on the prospects for Indonesian business in making the most out of the ASEAN economic integration in near future.

The Roundtable was participated by about 80 people which mostly come from business or business sector representatives.
