ASEAN economic ministers adopted the Framework for Circular Economy (CE) for the ASEAN Economic Community in October 2021. The Framework sets out an ambitious long-term vision for the circular economy, building on the strengths of existing initiatives and identifies priority areas for action, along with enablers, to realise the circular economy in ASEAN. The Framework is a priority economic deliverable under Brunei Darussalam’s 2021 ASEAN Chairmanship and was developed by the ASEAN Secretariat in collaboration with the Economic Research Institute for ASEAN and East Asia (ERIA).

In this episode, Lydia Ruddy, ERIA’s Director of Communications and Special Advisor for US-ASEAN Affairs, discusses Building the Circular Economy in ASEAN with Dr Venkatachalam Anbumozhi, ERIA’s Director of Research and Strategy Innovation, who leads ERIA’s work on the Circular Economy. Dr Anbumozhi shares his research and insights on the current state of the CE in the region, providing specific examples and suggestions on how to move forward.
