The Way Forward for a Stronger Regional and International Cooperation on Marine Plastic Debris

Completed

Online Forum hosted by the Mission of the Republic of Korea to ASEAN

Given the growing international and regional concerns on marine plastics, the Mission of the Republic of Korea to ASEAN is hosting an online Forum on marine plastic debris issues in the ASEAN region to suggest the way forward for the international legally binding agreement, in collaboration with the Regional Knowledge Centre for Marine Plastic Debris (RKC-MPD) of Economic Research Institute for ASEAN and East Asia (ERIA) as the organizer of the forum.

The event will raise awareness on the current alarming situation surrounding marine plastics and the urgent needs to address this issue internationally; stocktake the prevention and mitigation efforts undertaken by different stakeholders and receive recommendations from them; and formulate policy recommendations to advance the UNEA 5.2 resolution for a legally binding international treaty.
