Entrepreneurial higher education institutions (HEIs) are well-placed to respond to the innovation needs, including needs for societal innovation, of their own communities and networks, contributing to a future-capable society.
Because of their connections and interactions with stakeholders, and due to the relative neutrality of their agendas, HEIs can spur entrepreneurship that makes the most of innovation opportunities in their ecosystems. Entrepreneurial HEIs can structure a given ecosystems by generating both new actors (start-ups, spinoffs, incubators, accelerators, etc.) and new connections among the different actors. These characteristics make entrepreneurial HEIs ideal partners to enhance the impact of policies such as innovation, sustainability, and regional development.
Good practices are emerging in OECD countries. For instance, Cornell Tech in New York City is an entrepreneurial university that plays an important (and institutionalised) role in its own ecosystem, responding to a vision that aims to make New York a top innovation hub, in the world.
The webinar will host Dr Fernando Gomez Baquero, who is the director of the Runway Startups Program, a combination of a business school, a research institution, and a startup incubator. The Program is based at the Jacobs Technion-Cornell Institute, which operates in different fields, including connective media, health technology, security & privacy, and computer vision.
Fernando will provide insights about the innovative approach he is coordinating and the way in which this Program delivers on the academic side and connects to local policies promoting entrepreneurship and innovation. By attending the webinars, participants will be able to ask questions and get first-hand information about this practice.
