Message from Secretary-General of ASEAN
Secretary-General of ASEAN
Le Luong Minh
As the ASEAN Community enters 2015 and East Asia renews its efforts toward building a more integrated region, the Economic Research Institute for ASEAN and East Asia (ERIA) has been contributing to the community building process in ASEAN and the integration process in the wider East Asian context through various research and studies. ERIA's role is expanding while ASEAN and East Asia are experiencing a critical period as they face the future.
As a member of the Governing Board of ERIA since my appointment as Secretary-General of ASEAN in January 2013, I greatly appreciate the valuable research work undertaken by ERIA in contributing to the regional integration process in ASEAN.
ERIA's research contributions to ASEAN under the ASEAN Economic Community (AEC) covering three main areas of deepening economic integration, equitable economic development in relation to the narrowing of the development gap, and sustainable development through important activities such as the undertaking of the AEC Mid-Term Review, the enhancement of the AEC Scorecard, and the development of the ASEAN SME Policy Index with a view to supporting competitive and innovative SMEs in ASEAN, which have helped ASEAN in taking stock of AEC progress, the gaps that exist, and suggestions on the way forward.
I am hopeful and confident that ERIA will continue its contributions through policy-related research to support ASEAN's efforts to further expedite and deepen regional economic integration as well as in overcoming the challenges to be faced beyond 2015.
